DALMAC - Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw bike ride

DALMAC is Michigan's great end-of-summer bicycle camping tour. Four routes wind northward through Michigan's countryside, and quaint small towns, from East Lansing to up north destinations, ending in Mackinaw City or Sault Ste. Marie.

Gorgeous scenery, varied terrain and amazing vistas greet DALMAC riders on every route. Some routes offer the availability of crossing the Mackinac Bridge on your bike! This family-friendly all-ages supported bike tour is a must-do for any bicyclist in Michigan.

On Wed and Thu of the week before Labor Day each year, cyclists load their bags on trucks in East Lansing, MI, and begin riding one of the four routes to Mackinaw City (one route continues to Sault Ste Marie). Most "camp" in school yards where local organizations provide meals in school cafeterias. The event provides a small, but appreciated, source of revenue to small businesses and community groups all along each route. Riders look forward to re-visiting favorite lunch stops, stores, and at least one bake sale.

Riders enjoy many lesser traveled roadways, and Michigan's varied scenery. Michigan's terrain is mostly rolling, but at least one hill provides a long-talked-about challenge. In past years, all routes crossed the Mackinac Bridge to St Ignace. Now, just one route crosses the Bridge and continues to Sault Ste Marie. All the rides finish by 6pm on Sunday evening. Many riders are met by family or friends for the return trip. And many load their bicycles on the baggage trucks and return to E Lansing on chartered buses.

DALMAC has four different routes to choose from (2 routes that are 4 days, and 2 routes that are 5 days) with varying mileage from 294 miles to 400 miles.
